  • It's important to make our roads safer because they're getting busier

    I just want to speak from the standpoint that our streets are getting even busier right now.

    Cars are, there's more cars than there have ever been on the roads today. And in many cases, the vehicles are getting so large as to becoming a real threat. And so having the ability to try and shift the culture a little bit around our transportation routes and in our streets to get people to slow down, think more about how they share the space with other active transportation users and pedestrians is something, it's not easy work.

    It's going to take a long time, but I'm happy to support this effort on behalf of this council to try and make sure that we get that work moving and start communicating how important it is that we are trying to be much more safe on our roads.

    E-bikes, I think, are going to become the next revolution because especially now with the rebate program the province announced. Are we concerned about some of the speed rates that some of these vehicles are doing?

    ....Just out of curiosity of that numbers, which is it's terrific to see the number going down trending down, but of the 14 in 2022, for example, how many of those were pedestrian fatalities? I think these are aggregate numbers, including cycles and possible car accidents and what have you. Right?
